The Cassini probe finished exploring the Saturnian systems 6 years ago, but experts are still examining the information it was able to gather. Enceladus is Saturn’s 6th largest satellite. It is covered by a dense layer of ice, under which hides an internal ocean.
The equipment was able to identify water jets bursting out of cracks in the ice. As it turned out, they contain a mixture of volatile substances, including carbon dioxide, water vapor, and carbon monoxide. As the authors of the fresh study found, Saturn’s satellite also has ammonia and inorganic phosphorus.
