The so-called “Tarkhan Dress” from an ancient Egyptian burial, dating from 3482-3102 B.C., is believed to be the oldest piece of clothing discovered.
However, this is only one of the few direct evidences of the existence of woven textiles in antiquity. Archaeologists have also found textile remains from the Çatal-Hüyük settlement in Turkey that are about 8,500 years old, indicating that people were already making and wearing garments at that time.
More ancient evidence for the origin of clothing can be found in the Dzudzuana Cave in western present-day Georgia, where wild flax fibers dating back some 30 millennia have been discovered.
