Since not much is known about tyrannosaurs, it is first necessary to study the diet of modern predators. For example, a crocodile needs to consume 5 percent of its weight each week. A lion needs 25 percent since it is warm-blooded.
Villazon suggests that the metabolism of Tyrannosaurus would have been about average between a lion and a crocodile. Consequently, the animal would need an amount of food presumably equal to 15 percent of its weight.
